Required Handling and Storage
All items distributed by Total-R Inc. are intended to be installed soon after items arrive on a jobsite to maximize its effectiveness and reduce damages from improper storage. When timely installation is not possible, the following procedures should be followed.
Note: improper storage and handling of material will make all warranties void
Metal Building Insulation (MBI)
- Since the vapor barrier is fragile and subject to impact damage, exercise care in handling. Do not allow product to be thrown off the shipping vehicle, kicked, or placed in contact with sharp objects during storage.
- Insulation should be stored in a dry, protected area.
- All packages should be elevated above the ground or slab, to prevent contact with surface water.
- All packages should be covered with a tarp to protect against poor weather conditions such as rain or snow
- Lay all packages horizontally to retain form
- Poly-bags should have holes in each end to aerate the insulation. It is also suggested that the contractor open the ends of the bags to allow better air circulation around the insulation.
- Do not stack material excessively, as extended compaction can reduce the recovery of material thickness
- Do not store for more than 30 days
Membrane Rolls
- Store rolls on end (do not lay down horizontally)
- Best practice is to leave rolls on original pallet or arrange on an elevated platform on end (ensure the rolls are secured to avoid falling over)
- Do not store in an area where temperatures can exceed 49°C (120°F).
- Do not store in an area where temperatures are subject to extreme cold
- Warm rolls to 10°C (50°F) or above prior to application to assure adhesion to substrate.
Mineral Wool
- Insulation is water resistant and packaged to protect product from inclement weather
- Materials may be stored outside in all weather conditions.
- Take measures to ensure material is not sitting in water
Batts

Pins
- All pins are packaged in cardboard boxes, store in a dry environment to prevent deterioration of packaging
- Self-adhering pins have an expiry date, ensure pins are ordered as needed to ensure adhesion performance is optimal
